Where it is
Le Cornate is a small thermal hill at 970 m, with a single usable exposure to the west and a takeoff area that's tight and slightly rocky — though launching itself needs no special skill, one wing goes at a time. The catch is what happens next: it's roughly a 50-metre glide from take-off to the landing zone, so once you commit, you're in a one-shot configuration with no room to work back up if the lift isn't there. That makes weak conditions a poor time to fly here — wind needs to be close to ideal before launching, since this is a single-exposure site with no fallback direction. Landing itself is easy: a large, open field below with no real problems. It's a site that rewards patience for the right day over trying to force a marginal one.
Launch & conditions
Tight, slightly rocky takeoff — technically easy, one wing launches at a time. It's only about a 50 m glide from launch to the landing zone, so once you're off, you're committed with no room to work back up if lift isn't there.
Local rules & hazards
This is a single-exposure site, west-facing only — wind needs to be close to ideal before launching, since weak or off-direction conditions leave no fallback.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Le Cornate, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Le Cornate with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
