Where it is

ThermalsCross-countryHike & fly

Mombarcaro sits in Piedmont's Langhe hills, with a take-off just 50 m from the parking area and close enough to see the landing field from launch. Both sites are easily reached by car, next to Mombarcaro village, and a small paved road connects the two directly. The field is wide and straightforward, with thermic conditions good enough to support cross-country flying as well as shorter hike-and-fly outings. Wind needs respect here, though: strong wind, especially from the south, should be avoided altogether, and conditions at the landing field — down in the valley to the east, at about 306 m — can build noticeably stronger than they feel at launch. There's no windsock at the landing itself; pilots read the wind instead from a streamer mounted on a pole by the nearby bridge. A top landing back at launch is also an option when conditions allow.

Getting there & local rules

Both take-off and landing are easily reached by car, right next to Mombarcaro village, and connected directly by a small paved road.

Local rules & hazards

Avoid flying in strong wind, especially from the south — conditions at the landing field can turn notably stronger than at launch, so check them before taking off. There's no windsock at the landing field itself; look instead for the streamer on the pole by the nearby bridge.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Mombarcaro, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Mombarcaro with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
