Where it is
Razzano launches from 656 m above Giano Vetusto in southern Italy's Caserta area, and it's built for an easy day: the takeoff is large with a gentle slope, and top-landing back onto it is just as straightforward — both reachable by a five-minute walk up a set of stairs from the parking. That combination makes it a comfortable site for pilots building confidence, without the exposure or awkward ground handling that catches people out elsewhere. Flyable directions run south-west through west to north-west, giving a workable window as the day's breeze settles into the hillside. Thermals build reliably enough for local pilots to use Razzano as a springboard for cross-country flights as well as shorter soaring sessions when the wind holds. The main landing field sits down in Giano Vetusto itself, big enough to remove the guesswork from a normal approach, so a first visit here is more about enjoying the flying than managing a tricky arrival.

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Razzano, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Razzano with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
