El Peñón is one of Valle de Bravo's flagship launches and widely considered among the best paragliding sites in Mexico, if not the world. From December through March, conditions regularly support flights well over 100 km, with cloud bases climbing past 4,500 m. The launch itself was rebuilt and expanded in 2008 by the State of Mexico government as part of the infrastructure upgrade for the 2009 Paragliding World Championship. Reaching it means driving from Valle de Bravo toward Temascaltepec, turning off at the Albarrada road sign, and following the dirt road signs the rest of the way. Conditions shift with the calendar: from February through the start of the rainy season, expect stronger winds and rougher air most of the day, while the rainy season itself brings gentler baseline conditions but a real risk of fast-building thunderstorms. The official landing is a large grass field about 2.5 km in front of launch, though the classic cross-country line runs toward Valle de Bravo itself, finishing at the lakeside landing of Santa María, 14 km to the north-northwest.
