Where it is

SoaringHike & fly

Sarlota (Charlottenburg) in the Timiș region of western Romania is a small recreational hill — a school-and-recreation launch for first steps in paragliding rather than a serious flying site. You can take off in both directions from the top; watch out for occasional thistles. Good for a friends' outing with a bit of paragliding demonstration.

Launch & conditions

Take off from the top in either direction. Watch out for thistles in places. Best suited for recreation or first-steps school flying.

Getting there & local rules

From Timișoara, arrive in Masloc village and turn right just before a big antenna (village centre, with a church ahead-left). Head to Remetea Mică — care at the rail crossing. Continue straight through Remetea Mică and stay on the main road at the split. Next village is Charlottenburg/Sarlota. Just before entering it, a small country road on the right goes to the hill. Landings: on S/SE flights, turn right (south) after launch to land — an orchard sits ahead. On W/NW, no issues except a medium tree (slightly on the right side) that's easy to avoid.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Sarlota, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Sarlota with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
