Where it is
World's en View launches from the highest point of the Chunya road above Mbeya in southern Tanzania, at just over 2,400 m, right behind a mast that marks the launch from a distance. Getting there is straightforward — about a 30-minute drive from Mbeya, with space to park a car right at launch. The site faces east, and the actual flying tends to go smoothly: it's landing back on the ground that draws attention, since a crowd of onlookers can gather within minutes even in a fairly remote spot, making it hard to pack up gear at your own pace — arranging for someone to meet you with a car afterward makes the whole thing much easier. Weather here can turn quickly, and during the rainy season thunderclouds can build by early afternoon, so plan flights for the morning where possible. There's a small airport near Mbeya, so it's worth checking whether any flights are scheduled before flying. The landing area isn't visible from launch: after taking off, turn right and follow the ridge, and look for the valley south of the mountain near Uyole, where there's ample open ground to land.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to World's en View, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open World's en View with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
