Where it is
Los Caballos is a versatile thermal, soaring and cross-country site in Monagas state, Venezuela, launching at about 1,258 m and flyable in a wide spread of wind directions — north, northeast, east, southeast, south or northwest — which gives it more flyable days than most single-aspect launches. The approach passes through San Antonio de Capayacuar and a landmark known locally as the monument of the snake, before reaching the small hamlet of Los Caballos, set among extensive plantations of pineapple, passion fruit and other crops. The launch offers a good slope for dynamic soaring, and the broad valley below opens up thermal flying, which in turn makes cross-country flights out of the site possible. It also works for hike-and-fly, and there's flat ground nearby too. With multiple wind directions covered and a mix of soaring, thermal and XC potential, this is a well-rounded site for a flying day in this part of Venezuela.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Los Caballos, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Los Caballos with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
