Where it is

Soaring

Coliumo launches at 141 m on the Chilean coast, about 40 km north of Concepcion along the road to Tome and Dichato, and flies with wind from the south through southwest to west. Takeoff is straightforward and easy, which makes it an approachable coastal site rather than a technical one. The setting is genuinely scenic: from launch you can see Coliumo's Playa Blanca, the entrance to Concepcion Bay and Quiriquina Island, and once airborne the view opens up further to Tome, Dichato and Pingueral along the coastline. Landing matches the easy character of the site: a simple beach landing right on Playa Blanca. Between the low altitude, easy launch and easy landing, it's a relaxed, low-key coastal soaring spot well suited to enjoying the view as much as the flying itself.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Coliumo, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Coliumo with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
