Where it is

ThermalsCross-countryHike & fly

Ciglio - Cardile launches from a genuinely excellent, wide alpine-style meadow above Cardile in Italy's Campania region, kept in good condition and with a view stretching from the mountains down to the sea. At about 907 m, the site takes wind from east through south-east, south, south-west, west and north-west, and it's flown for thermalling, cross-country and hike-and-fly. The approach from the road ends about 500 m short of takeoff, covered on foot or by 4x4. Landing is the part that needs respect: the main field at the foot of the village has a technical entry window constrained by obstacles and isn't suitable for beginners, though pilots on higher-performance wings have other valley-floor landing options nearby. To get there, leave the motorway at Battipaglia onto the Cilentana toward Agropoli, exit at Vallo della Lucania, then head toward Moio della Civitella and Gioi without reaching Gioi itself; from Cardile's centre a mountain road, passable by any car, leads to within 500 m of takeoff.

Launch & conditions

The takeoff meadow is wide, well maintained and considered one of the best in the area, with views reaching down to the sea. The final 500 m to reach it are on foot or by 4x4, since the road stops short.

Getting there & local rules

Leave the motorway at Battipaglia onto the Cilentana road toward Agropoli, exit at Vallo della Lucania, then head toward Moio della Civitella and Gioi without reaching Gioi itself. From Cardile's centre, a mountain road passable by any car leads to within 500 m of takeoff, with the last stretch on foot or by 4x4.

Local rules & hazards

Landing at the main field below the village is technical, with an approach window constrained by obstacles, and isn't suitable for beginners; pilots on higher-performance wings have alternative valley-floor landing options nearby.

Check conditions before you fly
