Where it is
Colliano is a wide, steep thermal and soaring site in Campania, with take-off options spread across several cliffs facing south through southeast, so there's usually somewhere to launch even if the wind isn't quite lined up with your first choice. Conditions here typically get tougher during the hottest part of the day, so an earlier or later window tends to work better than midday. Before hiking up, it's worth squaring things with the landowners, since access to the climb needs their agreement; there's also no windsock at the top, so newcomers should go with pilots who already know the site's air rather than reading it cold. If the forecast turns out wrong on the day, Muro Lucano and other nearby flying areas are close enough to make a quick change of plan realistic.
Launch & conditions
Wide, steep terrain with take-offs spread across several cliffs facing south through southeast — plenty of room to shift launch point if the wind isn't quite right at the first spot.
Getting there & local rules
Agree access with the landowners before hiking up to launch. There's no windsock at the top, so it helps to go with local pilots the first time rather than reading conditions alone.
Local rules & hazards

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Colliano, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Colliano with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
