Where it is
Panni launches at 768 m in the Puglia hills near Candela, reached off the Naples–Bari motorway at the Candela exit by following the local signs. It's an unusually wind-tolerant site: pilots fly it with wind from the north or the south, and the fuller direction range on record — running through north-east, south-east, south-west and north-west as well — gives it more workable days than most single-facing launches in the region. The take-off sits just a few hundred metres from a convenient parking area, so the walk-in is short whichever direction you launch from. Once airborne, landing is generous rather than tight: pilots can top-land back near launch, and there are wide fields available on both sides of the hill for a standard approach. That combination of an easy, close parking-to-launch walk, a broad wind window and ample landing space makes Panni a low-friction site for a soaring or thermal session in this part of Puglia, with fewer of the timing constraints that narrower-window sites impose.

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Panni, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Panni with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
