Where it is
Cucurru Fennugu launches at 562 m above Gonnosfanadiga in south-west Sardinia, rated locally as a genuine performance site with an easy north-west-facing take-off and a substantial 400 m top-to-bottom height range. Big mountains rise behind the launch, feeding the thermal and soaring conditions that make the site especially productive in the afternoon, once the day's heating has built properly. That combination of altitude gain and reliable afternoon thermals also makes it a well-regarded choice for cross-country attempts rather than just a local soaring lap. One detail worth knowing before you fly: the landing field sits to the right of the take-off but isn't visible from the top of the mountain, so pilots should have the approach and landing area clearly identified from the ground beforehand rather than trying to spot it for the first time from altitude. With an easy launch, strong afternoon thermals and real XC potential, Cucurru Fennugu is one of the stronger performance sites in this part of Sardinia for pilots willing to plan the landing in advance.
