Where it is
Monte Antiogu Boi sits inside Sardinia's Sette Fratelli natural park, a short drive from Cagliari, and launches from a firebreak clearing at 699 m. It's a compact, uncrowded site that rewards pilots who already know their way around ridge lift and rowdier coastal air: the hill faces west/northwest and catches the Mistral, which blows strong here more often than not, so afternoon and evening — once the sun has eased the gradient wind — tend to fly best. Access follows a paved road to within a kilometre of takeoff, then a gated, unpaved track through the park; cars need a permit to continue, but walking in is free. The closest landing zone is a tight, roughly 40-metre clearing boxed in by scrub and trees, tricky enough that it's really a landing for pilots who already have some hours behind them. Most flyers instead work up enough altitude to reach the larger main landing area beside the SS125 highway, about two kilometres out — reachable only if you've climbed high enough over the site first.
Launch & conditions
Takeoff is a firebreak clearing on the hillside — compact, with no infrastructure, so scope it out before committing on a busy day.
Getting there & local rules
The road in is paved to about a kilometre from takeoff, then becomes an unpaved track through a gate; driving beyond the gate needs a permit since the site sits inside the Sette Fratelli natural park, though walking in is unrestricted.
Local rules & hazards
The site is exposed to west and northwest wind, and the local Mistral blows strong here more often than not. Because the slope faces the sun, afternoon and evening generally fly better than midday, once the gradient wind has eased.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Monte Antiogu Boi, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Monte Antiogu Boi with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
