Tangano

Tangano launches from a ridge at just over 2,000 m in Queretaro state, central Mexico, and is best known for relaxed evening ridge soaring rather than aggressive climbing flights. The site works with southwest through northwest winds and covers a broad range of flying styles, thermalling, ridge soaring, hike-and-fly and flatland-style glides, which makes it popular with pilots who want more than one kind of day. Reaching launch means a roughly 15-minute hike up from the base of the ridge along a marked trail, starting near a road junction below an electronic billboard. The cleared takeoff area sits at the top of the ridge, giving enough room to lay out and check a wing carefully before committing. Because a regional airport lies not far to the west, occasional light aircraft traffic can share the airspace nearby, and prevailing conditions are most reliable during the dry winter months, when the wind settles into a steadier pattern.

Launch & conditions

The takeoff area is cleared at the top of the ridge, reached by a roughly 15-minute hike from the base. Don't leave a car in the unpaved area near the trailhead, since construction debris there can damage tyres. Watch for turbulence off the high-rise buildings to the left of launch, and note low-hanging high-voltage lines just beyond that point.

Queretaro's airport lies to the west of the site, so general aviation traffic can occasionally pass nearby; stay alert for other aircraft. Conditions are most consistent during the dry winter season, when the prevailing wind holds a steady direction.
