Where it is
Sedili sits on Malaysia's Johor coast, just outside the south fence of a beachside resort, where a cleared hill leads up to a grassy launch suited to ridge soaring along the large ridge running south, or to easy, low-wind sled rides down to the beach for ground-handling practice. There's also a second option launching from inside the resort grounds itself, directly above the ridge below — but that one only works in a northeast wind and is for experienced pilots only. Getting here typically means flying into Singapore's Changi Airport rather than Kuala Lumpur, since it's closer, then crossing the Malaysia border — hiring a local driver for that leg is worth considering. One navigation quirk: Apple Maps doesn't recognize the direct road from the nearest town, Kota Tinggi, to the coast, sending you on a long detour north and back south instead; Google Maps has the correct, direct route, so use that one to find your way in.
Launch & conditions
The main launch is a grassy hilltop just outside the resort's south fence, suited to ridge soaring the large ridge to the south or easy low-wind sled rides to the beach. A second launch inside the resort grounds, directly above the ridge, only works in a northeast wind and is for experienced pilots only.
Getting there & local rules
Fly into Singapore's Changi Airport rather than Kuala Lumpur, since it's closer, then cross the Malaysia border — a local driver for that leg is worth arranging. Apple Maps doesn't show the direct road from Kota Tinggi (the nearest town) to the coast and will detour you; use Google Maps instead for the correct route.
Local rules & hazards
The resort-grounds launch only works in a northeast wind, flying directly onto the ridge below, and is for experienced pilots only — the hillside launch outside the fence is the more forgiving option for ridge soaring or low-wind ground handling.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Sedili, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Sedili with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
