Samanga

Samanga is widely regarded as the most scenic paragliding site in Zimbabwe, an escarpment launch that lets experienced pilots soar the evening breeze over waterfalls tumbling into the valley below, with sunset reflected in the clouds and plains of Mozambique beyond. It rewards experience: the rough terrain limits downwind options, flying into wind can be genuinely difficult even if rewarding, and the nearest medical care is over an hour away in Mutare. Launch sits at 1,600 m ASL, facing east over a valley that drops to around 600 m at its lowest point to the north — a big, welcoming platform, though it can get overgrown, with top landings possible for pilots experienced enough to handle them. The land is private forestry, so checking in with the forester on the way up is essential, and open fires are forbidden under any conditions. Theft has been reported here, so keep an eye on your gear on the ground.

Getting there & local rules

About 3.5 hours east of Harare via Rusape and Juliasdale, then the Honde Valley road; the final stretch is gravel, and you must report in at the forester's house before continuing to launch.
